Meetings with Congressmen & Senators

Last week members of your executive committee, together with Brandon Partridge and Tip Tipton of the Tipton Group, spent two days on Capital Hill meeting with the following senators, congressmen, and their staffs.  Our goal was to communicate the CIAA’s objection to the implementation of the dairy import assessment.  We met with:
  • Rep. Chris Kagen – Wisconsin, 8th District
  • Rep. Steve Rothman – NJ, 9th District
  • Rep. Albio Sires – NJ, 13th District
  • Senator Robert Menendez - NJ
  • Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen – NJ, 11th District
  • Senator Frank Lautenberg – NJ
In each case we were given ample time to express our views and ask for the Members’ support in this very important issue.

At the same time of our visits, the IDFA was holding their annual Washington Conference where they were also setting up meetings for various IDFA member companies and their appropriate legislators.  The dairy import assessment was  high on their list of topics to discuss and they put together a very strong one pager entitled “Oppose a Tax on Dairy Imports that Does Nothing to Promote Dairy”.

Please contact the Association’s headquarters if you’d like further details about these meetings.  Also, if you have not yet done so, it would be a good time to send out the letters to your Congressmen that was previously sent to you from the Association.
